Productive Morning Routine for a Great Day

November 6, 2020 · In: Healthy Habits

Raise your hand if you’re guilty of hitting the snooze button more times every morning than Tom Brady has won a Super Bowl. If I’m not careful, it’s probably my one and only annoying habit, right Chad? 😉 Well ladies, and gents, it’s time to upgrade your morning.

Did you know that our morning routine sets the flow for our entire day? If we wake up feeling tired and groggy, or rushed and crabby, then chances are good those vibes are going to keep flowing with us wherever the day may take us.

Changing your mindset in the morning is as simple as changing your routine. And, it doesn’t have to be complicated, or involve an early wake up call. Okay, maybe earlier...but definitely nothing crazy 😉 Get ready to completely transform your morning (and your mood!) with these 3 habits to add to your productive morning routine!

Give Yourself 30 Extra Minutes

That’s right. Upgrade your morning by setting your alarm just 30 minutes earlier than you normally do. And NOT so you can get an extra 30 minutes of hitting the snooze button, but actually get up and out of bed the FIRST time that alarm goes off. 30 minutes earlier. Use that time. And better yet: use that time however it would best serve you. Maybe it just means that you actually take your time getting out of bed, stretching, and getting ready for the day. Or maybe it means you spend 30 minutes mediating, praying, writing in your journal, reading your Bible, or doing some personal-development studying that you have a hard time fitting in elsewhere.

I like to set my alarm 30 minutes earlier and that time is my study time. I’ve used that time to study for my certifying exams, to work on my Bible-Study – whatever I have going on I like to use that time as my ME time, and it’s amazing how much you can absorb or take in when you’re given 30 quiet minutes in the morning to spend all on yourself.

Exercise

I know sometimes it sucks to get up and immediately jump into a workout, but when you exercise in the morning, you’re less likely to get so busy that you push it off your schedule completely. I will be the first to admit that I’m super guilty of doing that very thing. I’ll want to sleep in, then I’ll be running late and have to be somewhere, so my workout will get pushed back until later in the day, except by the time I get home or get finished with everything I have going on, I’m so tired that the last thing I want to do is get up and MOVE when I can be lying on the couch watching The Real Housewives!

Instead of being like my horrible example, schedule your workouts for the morning. Actually put them into the schedule on your phone, or write them down in your planner. Your body and sanity will thank you, trust me. Plus, exercise causes our body to release endorphins, endorphins make us happy, and happy people don’t shoot their husbands, right? Happy people are also more likely to go on about their day in better moods because they got up and go the thing done. So workout, and enjoy The Real Housewives in peace later knowing that you did something good for your mind, body, and soul already earlier in the day.

Add Collagen to Your Morning

Adding collagen to your morning routine can work wonders… for your skin, hair, and nails, and who doesn’t care about that? I add 1 scoop of collagen to my coffee every single morning. I would never even know I’m doing it, if I didn’t know I was doing it. Haha. I get the unflavored Collagen Peptides from Vital Proteins. I can’t taste them, but they mix wonderfully in with coffee, water, or smoothies (just make sure if you’re using a shaker bottle that you really shake it well. If you don’t, they CAN clump, and then that can end up giving you an unpleasant texture-surprise when you go to take a drink. I actually use one of those latte mixers and it works wonders). That extra boost will help you maintain your youthful glow, but it can also promote bone and joint health, boost muscle mass, aide in weight loss, and relieve anxiety.

And while you’re add it and adding collagen to your coffee, smoothie, or however you’re choosing to start the day, turn that addition into a full on breakfast and make sure to EAT! Food is fuel and by fueling yourself first thing you are setting yourself up for a morning of success, energy, and of course, an improved mood.

Figure out what will bring you energy in the morning and then make it your goal to incorporate those things into your new productive morning routine!
